Sometimes shoulder pain resolves without needing treatment. Sometimes you have an injury that needs to be evaluated by a physician.
To reduce shoulder pain, you can try the following therapeutic exercises daily:
Pendulum Stretch: Stand and lean over slightly, allowing the affected arm to hang down. Gently swing the arm in small circles, both clockwise and counterclockwise, to help loosen up the shoulder joint.
Towel Stretch: Hold a towel in one hand and drape it over your shoulder. Grab the other end of the towel with your other hand behind your back. Gently pull upward on the towel with the top hand to stretch the shoulder.
Doorway Stretch: Stand in a doorway with one hand on the door frame at shoulder height. Lean forward slightly, allowing the chest to stretch while keeping the arm stationary. Hold for 15-30 seconds and repeat on the other side.
Scapular Retraction: Sit or stand with your arms at your sides. Squeeze your shoulder blades together as if you're trying to hold a pencil between them. Hold for a few seconds and then relax. Repeat for several repetitions.
If you continue to experience shoulder pain following 2-3 days of performing these exercises, contact us for an appointment.
